Yin Yoga 50hr Content

This 50 hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training Module provides a solid foundation of the theory and methodology of Yin Yoga, deepening your knowledge and practice of Yin Yoga.

Yin Yoga uses restorative, floor-based poses to nourish and stimulate the deeper energetic channels in the body, providing support for the immune system. Yin Yoga also provides the perfect container to develop deeper levels of self-inquiry and to cultivate the capacity for meditative self-awareness.

You will learn a blend of applied anatomy physiology, as it mainly applies to fascia (connective tissue) and how it impacts and informs movement in the body. Alongside this, you will learn 31 yin poses, meridian theory, anatomy trains theory, optimised sequencing and creative integration of props, chakra theory as it relates to yin yoga and traditional meditative practices to enhance the yin state of a student.
Each module includes detailed seminars and discussion, combined with led classes, teaching practice and ample movement play so you can authentically integrate the concepts into your teachings through your own direct, embodied experience. Each participant will receive a detailed course manual.

MODULE ONE: YIN YOGA FUNDAMENTALS

In Module One we will delve into the anatomy, philosophy and teaching methodologies of Yin Yoga. We’ll break down the movements that shape each posture, including safety and modifications of the archetypal poses, learn how to work with bodyweight and gravity to enter and exit postures more gracefully, and discover how the creative uses of props can inspire your students to find the variations and adaptations that are right for them.

You’ll develop a deeper insight into the feelings, sensations and movement barriers that may arise for your students, understand how these limitations can be worked through, and ultimately cultivate the skill of guiding students into their own unique exploration of each pose as it unfolds so they can realise their full movement potential.

Main Body of Study
  • Yin Yoga historical overview, the purpose and benefits of practicing with a yin approach
  • Anatomy and physiology specific to Yin Yoga
  • Learn 31 Yin postures and their variations
  • Benefits and contra-indications of each Yin pose
  • Working with props and variations to help a student work through movement barriers
  • Learn to cue effectively into and out of a pose
  • A deep and practical understanding of how fascia works and how yin yoga models and influences the connective tissues of the body, taken from world leading fascia research
  • The importance of Natural Human Variation (how we are all anatomically different) as it applies to asana
  • What is range of motion (ROM) and how much do you need?
  • Understand the role the nervous system play in regulating ROM
  • What does the science tell us about how and when to stretch?
  • Understand what Yin means and how to enter into a Yin state of body and mind
  • Overview of chakra theory
  • Key asana ‘families’
  • Wall Yin

MODULE TWO: YIN YOGA SEQUENCING

Your joints work together like links in a chain to allow natural, free-flowing movement. The way you organise postures in a Yin Yoga sequence can help your students find the “missing links” where they have lost the ability to move naturally and efficiently.
In Module 2, you will learn how to optimise the effectiveness of Yin poses and teaching methodologies through progressive sequencing and understanding the Anatomy Trains of Tom Myers and the Meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These maps describe how energy travels through your body and how you can work with joints and connective tissues to restore the flow of energy.
Understand the fundamentals of a mindfulness meditation practice, and we look at ways to integrate mindfulness practice seamlessly into yin yoga classes.

Main Body of Study
  • Aspects of Neuroscience and Vagus Nerve Research
  • Anatomy of the Subtle Body (meridians and chakras)
  • Understand Anatomy Trains and how these “trains” direct or restrict energy
  • Chinese Medicine Meridian Theory and organ pairs
  • How does the study of meridians intersect with the study of fascia?
  • Learn about Qi energy
  • Taoist Five Element Theory and how this can be expressed through yoga asana and sequencing
  • Meditation practices to accompany your Yin practice
  • Mindfulness in Yin Yoga
  • Pranayama (breathing techniques)to enhance your Yin classes
  • Create Yin Yoga sequence following lines of energy in the body, specifically the Anatomy Trains and the meridians of TCM
  • Learn to sequence targeting specific joints or areas of the body in multiple ways
  • Sequencing inspired by Seasonal variations (Spring, Summer, Indian Summer, Autumn, Winter)
  • Sequence inspired by the Chakras
