HATHA YOGA
Simple Stretch
Our Simple Stretch is known in other parts of the world as ‘General Yoga’ or ‘Hatha Yoga’, but we think the term ‘Simple’ sums it up best as we think it’s Simply Perfect! In Sanskrit Hatha means ‘forceful’, but never fear, it’s more a reflection of its more ‘forceful’ nature compared to other spiritual practices such as meditation and pranayama (or breathing). Hatha also means “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha) which reflects its' aim to create balance in the body - between yin and yang, masculine and feminine, activity and rest, heat and cool, movement and stillness.
Hatha classes are good old fashioned yoga (literally). There’s no gimmicks, no fancy super-fast sequences that you need to be able to keep up with and best of all no need to be a yoga prodigy. It’s yoga for the every-man (and woman!) and a fantastic style for all ability levels with lots of options always thrown in.
Put simply, Hatha Classes are not too slow and not too quick – they’re the Goldilocks of the yoga world! You take your time getting in and out of poses, and really get a feel of what’s going on with your body. Holding poses for a little longer allows you to ‘breathe into them’ – giving your body the space and time it needs to open up.
You’ll build a bit of strength, get a little more flexy, find a little more balance and best of all leave feeling a lot more chilled out. Its yoga without the bells and whistles and that happens to be the way we like it best!
