Stretch Yoga Teacher Training Brisbane
Module 4: Anatomy: Planes of the Body, Types of Movement & Major Joints
Our foundational anatomy module is run by senior physiotherapist and exercise physiologist Mauricio Bara, and as well as equipping students with the knowledge to move through the asana modules with greater understanding of structure and movement, also sets students up to move on to the later biomechanics module. This module looks at the natural variation found in anatomy and joint movement, addresses some common conditions including hypermobility and dispels common anatomy myths found in mainstream yoga teaching.
Objectives: Students will take their knowledge of the muscles and bones and learn how these shape movement in the body.
The joints of the body will be practically studied and observed in other students creating a functional base for students to explore asana through.
Students will start to learn about common injuries that will appear in general yoga classes and their functional basis in the body – again a base to understand contraindicated asana through.
Content:
• Types of movements & planes of the body
• The concept of the 3 planes - sagittal, transverse and coronal (or frontal)• The 3 joint types – hinge, hinge-type (modified hinge) and ball and socket
• Flexion and extension
• Shoulder joint – main muscles and movements
• Spine & neck – main muscles and movements
• Hips – movement of the hip joints, causes of loose or stiff hips, functional variations, postural patterns.
• Knees – movement of the knee joint, structural variations
• Ankles & wrists
• Common injuries/conditions and contraindications
