Stretch Yoga

Many of us come to yoga to increase flexibility, especially around the hips and legs. But if our practice is made up of a lot of stretching and not much strengthening, it can lead to unnecessary tension and imbalance in the body.

This workshop will help you develop an understanding of your stretching techniques as applied to the entire hip joint, including the hamstrings. We will address misconceptions around strength, flexibility and mobility, and you'll leave with new skills that can be incorporated directly into your practice.

During this workshop, you will:
- Learn the difference between active and passive ranges of motion as they relate to the hip joint
- Identify common areas of weakness, tightness and overstretch, plus explore techniques to bring balance between these
- Learn how to incorporate accessible strength drills in your regular practice to create more support around the pelvis
- Learn how becoming stronger around the hip joint doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose the flexibility you currently have

About Matt Mulcahy

Matt is an Exercise Physiologist, yoga teacher and teacher trainer with over a decade of experience educating his students on the many possibilities that movement brings.

His aim is to create educational and accessible teachings to support students of every lineage and background. During his classes, you can expect a practical and down-to-earth approach to yoga that brings together traditional teachings in a modern context.

As we are eagerly awaiting the date of our workshop, here are some commonly asked questions to help you prepare!
How do I find Stretch Yoga Holland Park?

Find us at 50 Seville Rd, Holland Park (just next to Radiance Dance Academy) on the corner of Seville Rd and Roscoe St – look out for the beautiful brick building with parallel parks.

Is parking available?

You can find free parking spots right out front and on the streets around the studio!

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a yoga mat (we have a limited amount available for hire).

We do have lots of yoga props available, but if you prefer to use your own, feel free to do so!

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing you can freely move in.
