Stretch Yoga Teacher Training Brisbane
Module 5: Surya Namaskar - Sun Salutations
Sun salutations form the basis of the incredibly popular and commonly practiced vinyasa style. This module delves into the common poses in this sequence (such as downward facing dog, mountain pose and plank), as well as the transitions and common sequences found in this style. As the first practical asana module, this module serves as an introduction to applied anatomy and the Stretch Yoga teaching method. The focus on this module is on the spine, and borrows information from the previous anatomy module to help cement knowledge.
This module will also begin our teaching practice - starting with teaching in pairs in this module, until slowly expanding this until students are comfortable teaching solo to the entire group. Our goal is to help students slowly build confidence as they make their way through the course.
Objectives: Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the poses and transitions in the Surya Namaskar sequence including its variations.
Benefits, key actions and contraindications for each pose. Practice each pose with teacher’s cues individually, then with each other and learn how to align with directions through observation, practice and hands on experience.
Students to begin to teach each other with simple cues and begin to learn the effects of instructing with the correct cues.
