If someone asks you where you are tight do you reply with ‘everywhere’? If the answer is yes (or you named more than one area) then Deep Stretch may be the answer to all your body’s prayers!
Traditionally known as Yin Yoga, our Deep Stretch class focuses on long juicy stretches. Typically held for 2-5 minutes (or even longer for those stubborn areas) the poses that you’ll come across in a Deep Stretch class work on two levels. Like traditional yoga poses, yin poses lengthen through the muscle fibers, with the additional hold time allowing you to open up through the connective tissue (tendons and ligaments), leaving you with deep flexibility that will leave you the envy of gymnasts everywhere!
Classes typically focus on the tightest body parts – hips, hamstrings, quads, backs and shoulders. We use a lot of props (read – a lot of time is spent laying on bolsters) which helps even the most inflexible of us to find those deep stretches, and the more supple of us to take poses even deeper!
Deep Stretch is perfect for athletes (runners, cyclists, boxers and CrossFitters take note), those of us who spend too much time in front of a computer (aka nearly everyone), those with physical jobs, pregnant women and anyone looking to improve their overall range of motion.
Meditative, chilled out and relaxing – Deep Stretch is the perfect way to unwind physically and mentally. Perfect for beginners and all ability levels and an amazing complement to a more ‘yang’ yoga practice.
